The Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 153(4) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Financial Assistance for Environmental Purposes Order 1991 and shall come into force on 15th April 1991.
2. The following paragraph is hereby added to section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990:
“(n)the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce so far as its activities relate to the protection, improvement or better understanding of the environment.”.

This Order varies section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to enable the Secretary of State, with the consent of the Treasury, to give financial assistance to, or for the purposes of, the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce so far as its activities relate to the protection, improvement or better understanding of the environment.
