The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the A20 London–Folkestone–Dover Trunk Road (Sidcup Bypass Improvement Detrunking) Order 1992 and shall come into force on 20th August 1992.

2.  In this Order—

(i)“principal road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State;

(ii)“the Swanley Bypass” means that length of the A20 London–Folkestone–Dover Trunk Road from the junction of the B2173 at Upper Ruxley extending generally south-eastwards to the intersection of the M20 and M25 east of Swanley; and

(iii)“the trunk road” means the London–Folkestone–Dover Trunk Road (A20).

3.  The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road from the date on which this Order comes into force. It shall be classified as a principal road from Crittalls Corner to Ruxley Corner.

THE SCHEDULELENGTH OF THE TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

The length of trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road measures about 2.78 kilometres. Situated near Sidcup in the London Borough of Bexley, it starts at Crittalls Corner, extends generally eastwards via Ruxley Corner and ends near the western end of the Swanley Bypass. It is shown by broad black dashes on the plan numbered LRO64/22/2/01, marked “The A20 London–Folkestone–Dover Trunk Road (Sidcup Bypass Improvement Detrunking) Order 1992”, signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House,43 Marsham Street, London SW1 3PY.
