The A500 Newcastle-Under-Lyme to Nantwich Trunk Road (Basford-Hough-Shavington Bypass) (Detrunking) Order 1993

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12, of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:–

1.  The length of trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the County Council of Cheshire that the new trunk roads are open for through traffic.

2.  In this Order:–

(i)“principal road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as princi pal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to high ways classified by the Secretary of State;

(ii)“the deposited plan” means the plan numbered HA10/1 CNW 326 marked “The A500 Newcastle-under-Lyme To Nantwich Trunk Road (Basford-Hough-Shavington Bypass) (Detrunking) Order 1993” signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;

(iii)“the new trunk roads” means the new trunk roads to be provided by the Secretary of State in pursuance of the A500 Newcastleunder-Lyme To Nantwich Trunk Road (Basford-HoughShavington Bypass and Slip Road) Order 1993;

(iv)“the Trunk Road” means the A500 Newcastle-under-Lyme to Nantwich Trunk Road.

3.  This Order shall come into force on 9th June 1993 and may be cited as the A500 Newcastle-under-Lyme To Nantwich Trunk Road (Basford-Hough-Shavington Bypass) (Detrunking) Order 1993.

THE SCHEDULE

Length of Trunk Road Ceasing to be a Trunk Road. The length of trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is that length of the Trunk Road which is situated in the County of Cheshire between the eastern side of the roundabout junction at the south eastern end of the Nantwich Bypass and the south western side of the roundabout junction with the A5020 at Meremoor Moss.
