Made
28th November 1994
The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 82(4) of the Deregulation and Contracting Out Act 1994(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Deregulation and Contracting Out Act 1994 (Commencement No.1) Order 1994.
2. The provisions of the Deregulation and Contracting Out Act 1994 specified in article 3 below shall come into force on 1st December 1994.
3. The provisions referred to in article 2 above are—
(a)section 22 (Sunday opening of certain licensed premises in Scotland);
(b)section 23 (repeal of Part I of the Shops Act 1950);
(c)section 24 (repeal of remainder of the Shops Act 1950);
(d)section 81 (repeals) so far as relating to the entries referred to in paragraph (e) below; and
(e)in Schedule 17 (repeals), the entries in respect of—
(i)the Shops Act 1950(2);
(ii)the Shops (Airports) Act 1962(3);
(iii)the Shops (Early Closing Days) Act 1965(4);
(iv)the Local Government Act 1972(5);
(v)the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973(6);
(vi)the Cinemas Act 1985(7);
(vii)the Employment Act 1989(8); and
(viii)the Sunday Trading Act 1994(9).

This Order brings into force on 1st December 1994 the following provisions of the Deregulation and Contracting Out Act 1994:—
(a)section 22 (which amends section 119 of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 1976 in relation to Sunday opening of certain licensed premises in Scotland); and
(b)sections 23 and 24 and related entries in Schedule 17 (which provide for the repeal of the remaining provisions of the Shops Act 1950 and provisions in other enactments relating to that Act).
