The Merchant Shipping (Light Dues) (Amendment) Regulations 1995

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of powers conferred on him by section 5(2) of the Merchant Shipping (Mercantile Marine Fund) Act 1898(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Light Dues) (Amendment) Regulations 1995 and shall come into force on 1st April 1995.

2.—(1) The Merchant Shipping (Light Dues) Regulations 1990(2) shall be amended as follows.

(2) In the Schedule, in paragraph 1(1) of Part I (Scale of Payments), for sub– paragraph (b) (Ro–Ro Ferries) the following shall be substituted:

(b)Ro/Ro ferries

(i)43 pence per tone for a vessel whose liability is assessed on an International Tonnage Certificate (1969) issued in accordance with the Internation– al Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships 1969(3);

(ii)43 pence per ton on the first 1000 tons and 86 pence per ton on any excess over 1000 tons for a vessel whose liability is assessed on a tonnage certificate other than an International Tonnage Certificate (1969)..

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Merchant Shipping (Light Dues) Regulations 1990 (as amended). They remove the light dues surcharge for Ro/Ro vessels whose liability for light dues is assessed by reference to a tonnage certificate issued in accordance with the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships 1969. There are no other changes to the light dues tariff. The last change took effect on 1st April 1993.
