The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council
Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 2(3)(b) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995(1) and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Gibraltar colours) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 19th March 1996.
2.—(1) The adoption for the purpose of section 2(3)(b) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 as proper colours for ships registered in Gibraltar of the red ensign defaced with the arms of Gibraltar as specified in paragraph (2) below is hereby authorised.
(2) The positioning and proportions of the defacement shall be in accordance with the illustration in the Schedule hereto.

This Order authorises ships registered in Gibraltar to fly as proper colours a flag consisting of the red ensign defaced with the arms of Gibraltar.
