The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by section 66(3) of the Broadcasting Act 1990(1), hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Broadcasting (Channel 3 Transmission and Shared Distribution Costs) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 27th December 1996.

2.  The period specified in the Broadcasting (Channel 3 Transmission and Shared Distribution Costs) Order 1991(2) during which—

(a)all Channel 3 services are required to be broadcast for general reception by a single person under arrangements made with him by the persons licensed to provide those services; and

(b)all persons licensed to provide Channel 3 services are required to share the costs incurred in respect of the distribution of those services (taken as a whole) in such manner as may be approved by her,

shall be extended by a period of six years so as to end on 31st December 2002.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order extends by six years the period during which all Channel 3 services must be broadcast by a single person, which is also that during which all Channel 3 licensees must share the distribution costs of those services in such manner as may be approved by the Secretary of State.
