1. This Order may be cited as the Northern Ireland Arms Decommissioning Act 1997 (Commencement of Section 7) Order 1997.
2. Section 7 of the Northern Ireland Arms Decommissioning Act 1997 (independent organisation established by agreement with the Government of the Republic of Ireland to facilitate the decommissioning of firearms, ammunition and explosives) shall come into force on 1st September 1997.

This Order brings section 7 of the Northern Ireland Arms Decommissioning Act 1997 into force on 1st September 1997. Section 7 gives the Secretary of State power by order to confer certain powers, immunities and privileges on an independent Commission, its members and others, established by agreement, in connection with the affairs of Northern Ireland, between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland to facilitate the decommissioning of firearms, ammunition and explosives. Such an agreement was concluded on 26th August 1997.
On 9th July 1997, the title of the Minister was altered to that of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform (Republic of Ireland S.I. No. 298 of 1997).
