Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) (British Antarctic Territory) Order 1997 and shall come into force on 30th November 1997.

Implementation of the Liability and Fund Conventions

2.  Sections 152 to 170(1) and 172 to 181 of, and Schedule 5 to, the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, subject to the exceptions, adaptations and modifications specified in the Schedule to this Order, shall extend to the British Antarctic Territory; and any instrument made, or to be made, under section 152(2), 157(2), 172(2) or 176(5) shall also extend to the British Antarctic Territory.

Interpretation

3.  In this Order, “the Territory” means the British Antarctic Territory, and references to the Territory include references to the territory and territorial sea of the British Antarctic Territory.
