Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulation)

These Regulations amend regulation 75 of the Jobseeker’s Allowance Regulations 1996. Amongst other things, regulation 75 prescribes the meaning of “an employment programme” for the purposes of section 19 of the Jobseekers Act 1995, which relates to the circumstances in which a jobseeker’s allowance is not payable to a person even though he satisfies the conditions of entitlement. The amendment adds a new employment programme, called Jobfinder, to the list of programmes in regulation 75.

(1)

1995 c. 18. Section 35(1) is an interpretation provision and is cited because of the meanings ascribed to the words “prescribed” and “regulations”.

(2)

See section 170 and section 173(1)(b) of the Social Security Administra tion Act 1992, 1992 c. 5; paragraph 67 of Schedule 2 to the Jobseekers Act 1995 added that Act to the list of “relevant enactments” in respect of which regulations must normally be referred to the Committee.

(3)

S.I. 1996/207, to which there are amendments not relevant to these Regulations.
