The Secretary of State for the Environment,Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 89(4)(b) and (5) and 108 (1)(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988(2), after consulting with representative organisations in accordance with section 195(2) of that Act and with the approval of the Treasury(3), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 1998 and shall come into force on 1st April 1998.

2.  The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1996(4) shall be further amended in accordance with regulation 3.

3.—(1) In regulation 27(6), for “£31.00” there shall be substituted “£32.75”.

(2) In regulation 45(5) for “£10” there shall be substituted “£15”.

(3) For Schedule 5 (fees for tests) there shall be substituted—

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations further amend the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1996 (S.I. 1996/2824) by—

(a)increasing the fees for practical and unitary driving tests, as specified below, and for the London taxi drivers' test from £31 to £32.75;

(b)increasing from £10 to £15 the charge made for the supply of forms of practical test pass certificates to persons appointed to conduct tests by certain approved companies and public service vehicle operators.

The fees payable in respect of tests from 1st April 1998 (with the percentage increase and the date of the last change shown in brackets) are:—
