The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 7(4) and (5) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971(1), on the recommendation of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs (Designation) (Variation) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st May 1998.
2.—(1) The Misuse of Drugs (Designation) Order 1986(2) shall be varied as follows.
(2) In paragraph 1(a) of Part I to the Schedule, there shall be inserted—
(a)after the word “Eticyclidine”, the word “Etryptamine”; and
(b)after the word “Mescaline”, the word “Methcathinone”.

This Order varies the Misuse of Drugs (Designation) Order 1986 by adding to Part I of the Schedule (which specifies the controlled drugs which are designated as drugs to which section 7(4) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 applies) Etryptamine and Methcathinone.
