In exercise of the powers conferred by section 85(5) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998(1) the Secretary of State for Wales hereby makes the following Order:–

Citation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Education (Code of Practice on LEA – School Relations) (Appointed Day) (Wales) Order 1999.

Appointed Day

2.  30th June 1999 is hereby appointed as the day on which the Code of Practice on LEA – School Relations(2) issued pursuant to Section 127 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 on 15th June 1999 shall come into effect.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order appoints 30th June 1999 as the day on which the Code of Practice on LEA – School Relations issued under section 127 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (“the 1998 Act”) takes effect. This Code provides practical guidance with a view to securing effective relationships between local education authorities in Wales and the schools maintained by them–

(a)in relation to promoting high standards of education in such schools; and

(b)in relation to the discharge of “relevant” functions of such authorities in relation to such schools (as listed in section 127(6) of the 1998 Act).

Copies of the Code may be obtained from the National Assembly for Wales, Cathays Park, Cardiff, CF10 3NQ. The Code is accessible on the internet at www.wales.gov.uk.
