In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 425 of the Greater London Authority Act 1999(1), the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Greater London Authority Act 1999 (Commencement No. 1 Order 1999.
(2) In this Order, “the 1999 Act” means the Greater London Authority Act 1999 and “the 1996 Act” means the Police Act 1996(2).
2. Section 324 of the 1999 Act (secondments) shall come into force on 1st January 2000.
3. The following provisions of the 1999 Act shall come into force on 1st January 2000 for the purposes only of giving effect to those parts of Schedules 2A and 3 to the 1996 Act which relate to the appointment of members of the Metropolitan Police Authority:
(a)section 310;
(b)section 325 to the extent that it relates to paragraph 106 of Schedule 27;
(c)Schedule 26; and
(d)paragraph 106 of Schedule 27.
4. The following provisions of the 1999 Act shall come into force on 1st April 2000:
(a)section 323 (alteration of the metropolitan police district);
(b)section 325 to the extent that it relates to paragraphs 69, 84(1) and (3) and 105 of Schedule 27 (further amendments relating to metropolitan police);
(c)paragraphs 69, 84(1) and (3) and 105 of Schedule 27 (amendments consequential on alteration of metropolitan police district); and
(d)the entries in Part VII of Schedule 34 which relate to sections 1(3) and 32(5) of and Schedule 2 to the 1996 Act (repeals consequential on alteration of metropolitan police district).

This Order brings into force the provisions of the Greater London Authority Act 1999 specified in article 2 and for certain purposes only article 3 on 1st January 2000. The provisions specified in article 4 are brought into force on 1st April 2000.
Article 2 brings into force section 324 which makes provision for secondments from the metropolitan police force to police forces affected by the boundary change of the metropolitan police district. Article 3 provides for the commencement of various provisions relating to the membership of the Metropolitan Police Authority for the purposes of making appointments to that body. Article 4 brings into force the boundary change of the metropolitan police district and various consequential amendments and repeals.
