The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 108(5) and (7) of the Local Government Act 2000(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act 2000 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2000.
(2) In this Order references to sections and Schedules are, unless otherwise specified, references to sections of, and Schedules to, the Local Government Act 2000.
(3) This Order applies in relation to England only.
2. The following provisions shall come into force on 18th October 2000—
(a)sections 1 to 9;
(b)in Schedule 6, the repeal—
(i)in section 25(8) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976(2), of the words from “Without prejudice” to “inhabitants of its area)”;
(ii)in section 13 of the Inner Urban Areas Act 1978(3), of the words “section 137(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 or”;
(iii)of section 11A(4) of the Housing Act 1985(4); and
(iv)of sections 34 and 35 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989(5); and
(c)section 107(2) to the extent that it relates to the repeals referred to in paragraph (b) of this article.

This Order brings into force, in relation to England only, further provisions of the Local Government Act 2000 (“the Act”).
Article 2 brings into force, on 18th October 2000, Part I of the Act, which contains the provisions concerned with the promotion of economic, social or environmental well-being and consequential repeals of various statutory provisions.
