(This note is not part of the Order)
The Elections Act 2001 postponed certain local government elections from 3rd May 2001 to 7th June 2001. This postponement also has an impact on the dates by which annual meetings must be held by joint authorities, police authorities and certain parish and community councils. This Order modifies three provisions in the Local Government Act 1972 relating to such meetings. The date by which a joint authority or police authority must hold its annual meeting in 2001 is extended to 31st August, and the date by which a parish or community council which is not holding ordinary elections in 2001 must hold its annual meeting is extended to the end of June.
1972 c. 70. Paragraph 6A(1) was inserted by Schedule 14 to the Local Government Act 1985 (c. 51). It was later substituted by section 10(3) of the Local Government Act 1986 (c. 10) and amended by paragraph 15 of Schedule 4 to the Police and Magistrates' Courts Act 1994 (c. 29), paragraph 1(1) and (2)(h) of Schedule 7 to the Police Act 1996 (c. 16), paragraph 10(2) of Schedule 6 to the Police Act 1997 (c. 50) and paragraph 36(2) of Schedule 27 to the Greater London Authority Act 1999 (c. 29).
