The Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (Commencement No. 9) Order 2001

In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 170(4) and (5) of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999(1), the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (Commencement No. 9) Order 2001.

2.  The provisions of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 specified in column 1 of the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on the date specified in column 2 of that Schedule, but where a particular purpose is specified in relation to any such provision in column 3 of that Schedule, the provision shall come into force on that date only for that purpose.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force, certain provisions of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

On 19th February 2001, section 22 is commenced for the purposes of laying a draft code before Parliament and of making subordinate legislation.

On 2 April 2001, the following provisions are commenced, so far as not already in force:

(a) all of the provisions of Part VIII (Detention Centres and Detained Persons);

(b) Schedule 11 which contains provisions relating to detainee custody officers;

(c) Schedule 12 which contains provisions relating to discipline at detention centres;

(d) Schedule 13 which contains provisions relating to escort arrangements.
