The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 80 of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000(1) hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 (Commencement No. 8) Order 2001.
2. Section 71(1) to (4) of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 shall come into force on 29th October 2001.

This Order brings into force section 71(1) to (4) of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 on 29th October 2001.
Section 71 empowers the Secretary of State to make information, inter alia that which is contained in the driving licences register maintained by him under the Road Traffic Act 1988, available to the Police Information Technology Organisation for use by constables. It also provides for regulations to be made specifying the purposes for which constables may be given access to the information and the circumstances in which any of the information to which they have been given access may be further disclosed by them.
