The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 101(2) to (4), 105(1) to (3), 114(1) and 120 of the Road Traffic Act 1988(1), and after consulting with representative organisations in accordance with section 195(2) of that Act, hereby makes the Regulations:

1988 c. 52. The table in section 101(1) was substituted and sections 105 and 144 were amended, by S.I. 1996/1974 regulation 2 and paragraphs 15, 17 and 22 of Schedule 1. Section 105 was amended by the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 (c. 22) section 7 and Schedule 3, the Road Traffic Act 1991 (c. 40) section 83 and Schedule 8, S.I. 1990/144 regulation 2(1) and paragraph 6 of Schedule 1 and S.I. 1998/1420 regulations 2, 10, 17 and the Schedule. Sections 114 and 120 were substituted by the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 sections 1, 2 and 16 and Schedules 2 and 6.
