1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Parliamentary Constituencies and Assembly Electoral Regions (Wales) Order 2006.
(2) Subject to section 4(6) of the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986 and paragraph 9(2) of Schedule 1 to the Government of Wales Act 1998, this Order shall come into force on the fourteenth day after the day on which it is made.
(3) In this Order—
(a)any reference to an electoral division is a reference to the electoral division of the local government area in which that electoral division is situated;
(b)any reference to a local government area is a reference to that area as it existed on 31st January 2005; and
(c)“the Assembly” means the Assembly for Wales which was established by section 1 of the Government of Wales Act 1998 and which is known as the National Assembly for Wales or Cynulliad Cenedlaethol Cymru.
2. Wales shall be divided into the parliamentary constituencies—
(a)which are named in column 1 of Schedule 1 to this Order;
(b)which comprise the areas which are set out in column 2 of that Schedule opposite the name of the constituency; and
(c)which are designated as being either county constituencies or borough constituencies according to the name in column 1 of that Schedule.
3.—(1) The Assembly electoral regions shall be the regions—
(a)which are named in column 1 of Schedule 2 to this Order; and
(b)which comprise the areas which are set out in column 2 of that Schedule opposite the name of the Assembly electoral region.
(2) The areas set out in column 2 of that Schedule are the constituencies named in column 1 of Schedule 1 to this Order.
4. Each electoral registration officer for—
(a)the constituencies referred to in article 2; and
(b)the Assembly electoral regions referred to in article 3
shall make such re-arrangement or adaptation of the registers of parliamentary or, as the case may be, local government electors as may be necessary to give effect to this Order.
5. The Parliamentary Constituencies (Wales) Order 1995(1) is revoked.
