SPORTS GROUNDS AND SPORTING EVENTS
The London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2006
The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 40(2) to (4) and (9) of the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006(), makes the following Order:
Citation and interpretation
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2006.
(2) In this Order—
“the Act” means the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006; and
“the commencement date” means 30th May 2006.
Provisions coming into force on the commencement date
2. The following provisions of the Act shall come into force on the commencement date—
(1) section 2,
(2) sections 6 to 12 and Schedule 2,
(3) sections 17 and 18,
(4) section 35(3) to (5), and
(5) section 36(1), (2), (4) and (5).
Provisions coming into force on the commencement date except so far as they extend to Scotland
3. The following provisions of the Act shall come into force on the commencement date except so far as they extend to Scotland—
(1) sections 19 to 31, and
(2) section 39(2) and (3).
Section 36(3)(b) of the Act
4.—(1) Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3), section 36(3)(b) of the Act shall come into force on the commencement date.
(2) Section 36(3)(b) of the Act shall have effect in relation to purchases (whether compulsory or voluntary) completed before, on or after the commencement date.
(3) In its application by virtue of section 36(3)(b) of the Act, section 295 of the Housing Act 1985() is modified so that extinguishment of rights and easements under that section takes effect, in the case of a purchase completed before the commencement date, on the commencement date.
Section 36(3)(c) of the Act
5.—(1) Subject to paragraphs (2) and (3), section 36(3)(c) of the Act shall come into force on the commencement date.
(2) Section 36(3)(c) shall have effect in relation to purchases (whether compulsory or voluntary) completed on or after 1st October 2005.
(3) But, in accordance with section 40(9)(c)(ii) of the Act, this article shall not affect the lawfulness of anything done before the commencement date.

Explanatory Note
This Order brings provisions of the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006 (“the Act”) into force on 30th May 2006 (“the commencement date”).
Article 1 provides that the Order may be cited as the London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Act 2006 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2006 and defines two terms used in the Order.
Article 2 brings the following provisions of the Act into force on the commencement date:
section 2,
sections 6 to 12 and Schedule 2,
sections 17 and 18,
section 35(3) to (5), and
section 36(1), (2), (4) and (5).
Article 3 brings the following provisions of the Act into force on the commencement date except so far as they extend to Scotland:
sections 19 to 31, and
section 39(2) and (3).
Article 4(1) brings section 36(3)(b) of the Act into force on the commencement date. This is subject to paragraphs (2) and (3) of article 4 which provide that:
section 36(3)(b) has effect in relation to purchases (whether compulsory or voluntary) completed before, on or after the commencement date, and
in its application by virtue of section 36(3)(b), section 295 of the Housing Act 1985 is modified so that extinguishment of rights and easements under that section takes effect, in the case of a purchase completed before the commencement date, on the commencement date.
Article 5(1) brings section 36(3)(c) of the Act into force on the commencement date. This is subject to paragraphs (2) and (3) of article 5 which provide that:
section 36(3)(c) has effect in relation to purchases (whether compulsory or voluntary) completed on or after 1st October 2005, and
in accordance with section 40(9)(c)(ii) of the Act, article 5 does not affect the lawfulness of anything done before the commencement date.
