18.—(1) Paragraph 16 (investigations by the appropriate authority on its own behalf)(1) is modified as follows.
(2) for sub-paragraph (3)(2) substitute—
“(3) It shall be the duty of the appropriate authority to appoint an immigration officer or an official of the Secretary of State to investigate the complaint or matter.”.
(3) Omit sub-paragraphs (4) and (5).

Paragraph 16 of Schedule 3 to the 2002 Act has been amended by: section 160 of, and paragraphs 1, 11, 13 and 14 of Schedule 12 to, the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005; and section 1(3) of, and paragraphs 80 and 89 of Schedule 1 to, the Police and Justice Act 2006.
