The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8B(5) of the Immigration Act 1971(1):

1.  This Order may be cited as the Immigration (Designation of Travel Bans) (Amendment) Order 2009 and shall come into force on 11 December 2009.

2.  For the Schedule to the Immigration (Designation of Travel Bans) Order 2000(2) substitute the Schedule to this Order.

3.  The Immigration (Designation of Travel Bans) (Amendment) Order 2008(3) is revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the Immigration (Designation of Travel Bans) Order 2000 (“the 2000 Order”) by substituting the Schedule set out in the Schedule to this Order for the Schedule to the 2000 Order (which was last substituted by the Immigration (Designation of Travel Bans) (Amendment) Order 2008 (“the 2008 Order”)). Any person named by or under an instrument listed in the new Schedule or falling within a description in such an instrument will be excluded from the United Kingdom (subject to the exceptions specified in article 3 of the 2000 Order).

The effect of substituting the Schedule set out in the Schedule to this Order for the Schedule to the 2000 Order is to add to and delete from, the list of designated instruments, and to make some amendments to the list.

The additions to Part 1 of the Schedule are UN Resolution 1893 (2009) of 29 October 2009 (Côte d’Ivoire), UN Resolution 1857 (2008) of 22 December 2008 (Democratic Republic of the Congo), UN Resolution 1874 (2009) of 12 June 2009 (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea), UN Resolution 1854 (2008) of 19 December 2008 (Liberia) and UN Resolution 1844 (2008) of 20 November 2008 (Somalia).

Article 3 of this Order revokes the 2008 Order.
