(5) A current system student [other than a ... 2009, 2012 or 2016 cohort student] who qualifies for a maintenance grant in respect of an academic year receives an amount as follows in respect of that year—
(a)where the household income is £18,360 or less, the student receives [£3,878];
(b)where the household income exceeds £18,360 but does not exceed [£39,587], the student receives an amount equal to
where—
M is [£3,878]
A is £1 for every complete [£4.47] by which the household income exceeds £18,360 but does not exceed [£28,114];
B is £1 for every complete [£6.97] by which the household income exceeds [£28,114] but does not exceed [£39,587];
(c)where the household income exceeds [£39,587], no maintenance grant is payable.
