The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 186 of the Education Act 2002(1).
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Teacher Student Loans) (Repayment etc) (Amendment) Regulations 2012 and come into force on 1st April 2012.
2. The Education (Teacher Student Loans) (Repayment etc) Regulations 2002(2) are revoked.
3.—(1) The Education (Teacher Student Loans) (Repayment etc) Regulations 2003(3) are amended as follows.
(2) In the heading to regulation 10 (provision of information by employers and the General Teaching Councils), for “General Teaching Councils” substitute “General Teaching Council for Wales”.
(3) In regulation 10(4)—
(a)omit the words “General Teaching Council for England and the”; and
(b)for the words “they are” substitute “it is”.

The Education (Teacher Student Loans) (Repayment etc) Regulations 2003 (“the 2003 Regulations”) provide for the reduction and repayment of student loans owed by newly qualified teachers employed in those subjects where there is a shortage of teachers, subject to certain conditions.
These Regulations amend regulation 10 of the 2003 Regulations further to the abolition of the General Teaching Council for England.
These Regulations revoke the Education (Teacher Student Loans) (Repayment etc) Regulations 2002.
An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as it has no impact on businesses or civil society organisations. The instrument has a minimal impact on the public sector.
