The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 166 of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980(1).

In accordance with section 166(2) of that Act the Secretary of State has consulted Thurrock Borough Council (being the local authority in whose area the relevant urban development area is situated).

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Thurrock Development Corporation (Dissolution) Order 2012 and shall come into force on 3rd April 2012.

Dissolution of the Corporation

2.  The Thurrock Development Corporation shall be dissolved on 31st October 2012.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

By virtue of section 166(3) of the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980, on the coming into force of this Order the Thurrock Development Corporation will cease to act except for the purpose of preparing its final accounts and report and winding up its affairs. The corporation will be dissolved on 31st October 2012.

No Impact Assessment has been prepared for this instrument as no impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.

1980 c. 65. Section 166 was amended by section 180 of the Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993 (c. 28), section 143(5) of the Housing, Grants and Reconstruction Act 2008 (c. 53) and S.I. 1998/85. The functions of the Secretary of State under section 166 are now exercisable by the Welsh Ministers so far as they are exercisable in relation to Wales. They were previously transferred to the National Assembly for Wales by the National Assembly for Wales (Transfer of Functions) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/672), article 2; see the entry in Schedule 1 for the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980. By virtue of paragraphs 30 and 32 of Schedule 11 to the Government of Wales Act 2006 (c. 32) they were transferred to the Welsh Ministers.
