(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order makes transitional provision relating to the introduction of individual electoral registration in Great Britain. It is made under Schedule 5 to the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013. It brings forward the effect of paragraph 6 of Schedule 5 to that Act. That paragraph 6 requires registration officers, immediately before the publication of a register following the third new canvass, to remove the entry of any person who has neither had his or her entitlement to remain registered as an elector confirmed nor has made a successful new application for registration in the register. The effect of the Order is to require registration officers to remove those entries immediately before publication of a register following the second new canvass, instead of the third new canvass.
An overall impact assessment in relation to the individual electoral registration scheme is available on the Cabinet Office website at http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/sites/default/files/resources/IER-Impact.
2013 c. 6. Section 25 was amended by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Order 2015 (S. I. 2015/1376) and under article 3 of that Order this power is exercisable concurrently by the Secretary of State and the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.
