The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3A(1), (1A), (1B) and (3) and 4(1)(b) and (4) of the Ministry of Defence Police Act 1987(1).

Section 3A was inserted by section 79(1) of the Police Reform Act 2002 (c. 30) and amended by section 126(2) of, and paragraphs 12 and 14 of Schedule 22 to, the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 (c. 4), section 6 of the Armed Forces Act 2011 (c. 18), and paragraph 2 of Schedule 7, and paragraph 63 of Schedule 9 to the Policing and Crime Act 2017 (c. 3); section 4 was substituted by section 126(2) of, and paragraphs 12 and 15 of Schedule 22 to, the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008, and amended by section 29(8) of, and paragraphs 1 and 3 of Schedule 7, and paragraph 63 of Schedule 9 to, the Policing and Crime Act 2017.
