In accordance with section 7(2)(e) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000(1), the Electoral Commission has been consulted prior to making these Regulations.
A draft of these Regulations was laid before Parliament in accordance with section 201(2) of the Representation of the People Act 1983(2) and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.
Accordingly, the Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 53(1)(b)(i) and (3) of, and paragraphs 1(4), (4A), (4B) and (6) to (8) and 13(1ZA)of Schedule 2 to, that Act(3) makes the following Regulations:
Paragraphs 1(4A), (4B), (6) to (8) and 13(1ZA) of Schedule 2 to the 1983 Act were inserted by section 7 of the Northern Ireland (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2006 (c.33). Paragraphs 1(7) and (8) are interpretation provisions and are cited here because they define the meaning of “the relevant registration objectives” and “third party” respectively.
