Citation and commencement

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Local Justice Areas (No. 2) Order 2015.

(2) This Order comes into force on 3rd December 2015 for the purposes of Part 1 of the Schedule.

(3) For all other purposes, this Order comes into force on 1st April 2016.

Interpretation

2.—(1) In this Order—

“existing area” means a local justice area as it exists immediately before 1st April 2016;

“new area” means a local justice area constituted by this Order.

(2) Any reference to a justice for an area is to be construed as a reference to a justice of the peace who ordinarily acts, or as the case may be, will on or after 1st April 2016, ordinarily act, in and for that area.

New Areas

3.—(1) The existing areas of—

(a)Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale,

(b)Chorley,

(c)East Lancashire,

(d)Fylde Coast,

(e)Lancaster,

(f)Ormskirk, and

(g)Preston and South Ribble,

are combined to become a new area named Lancashire.

(2) The existing areas of—

(a)Bolton,

(b)Bury and Rochdale,

(c)Manchester and Salford,

(d)Oldham,

(e)Stockport,

(f)Tameside,

(g)Trafford, and

(h)Wigan and Leigh,

are combined to become a new area named Greater Manchester.

(3) The existing areas of—

(a)Sussex (Northern), and

(b)Sussex (Western),

are combined to become a new area named West Sussex.

Amendments to the Local Justice Areas Order 2005

4.  The Schedule to the Local Justice Areas Order 2005(1) is amended as follows—

(a)omit “Bolton”;

(b)omit “Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale”;

(c)omit “Bury and Rochdale”;

(d)omit “Chorley”;

(e)omit “East Lancashire”;

(f)omit “Fylde Coast”;

(g)omit “Lancaster”;

(h)omit “Manchester and Salford”;

(i)omit “Oldham”;

(j)omit “Ormskirk”;

(k)omit “Preston and South Ribble”;

(l)omit “Stockport”;

(m)omit “Sussex (Northern)”;

(n)omit “Sussex (Western)”;

(o)omit “Tameside”;

(p)omit “Trafford”;

(q)omit “Wigan and Leigh”;

(r)after “Gloucestershire” insert “Greater Manchester”;

(s)after “Kirklees” insert “Lancashire”;

(t)after “West London” insert “West Sussex”.

Schedule

5.  The Schedule to this Order has effect.
